Get the most out of SnoozeShade on holiday

Get the most out of SnoozeShade on holiday

Hooray! You've booked your holiday and you've got your travel checklists ready. Packing is sorted, early check is done… you’re ready to go! Hopefully you’ve read our post on helping your baby to sleep on the go (if not, find it here) and make sure your SnoozeShade is safely packed in your hand luggage so it's ready to save the day when you need it.

So we’re going to take a look at using your SnoozeShade on holiday. Hopefully you know some of the benefits, but do you know how to make the most of it (and that there may be some other products you may need?)

Some of the benefits of using a SnoozeShade on holiday are:

  • you don’t need to take a cumbersome parasol with you (which you'll probably spend a lot of time adjusting as the sun moves every time you cross the road)
  • you have one shade that fits perfectly and provides full sun protection AND a distraction-free place for baby to sleep on-the-go
  • you can use the sneak-a-peek zip to check on baby without disturbing an important daytime nap
  • going out for meals at night is also made easier as baby can snooze while you eat (even if it's bedtime)
  • when in transit, keep it in your hand luggage so you can use to make an airport delay easier
  • you can all share a room with a baby using our travel cot sleep shade

SnoozeShade for your pram

SnoozeShade pram sun and sleep shades provide fantastic all round sun protection for your little one wherever you are in the world.  They are made from better than breathable air-permeable mesh that has been rigorously tested to ensure that it’s safe for use in hot weather.

SnoozeShade has been happily used over the last 12 years by parents in hot countries including Africa, the Carribean, the UAE, Australia, New Zealand and across hottest states in the US.

If you're holidaying in a hot country, it’s best to look for as much shade as you can, check on your baby regularly whilst sleeping and if it's too hot for you then try to go indoors. We also recommend buying a pram fan if you know it will be a hot temperature as they don't necessarily make it cooler but can make it more comfortable for your little one by keeping air moving.

For 0-6m (or while baby is lying flat)

Doctors worldwide recommend that babies aged 0-6m are kept completely out of direct sunlight.  Their skin is too sensitive for sunscreen and contains very little melanin, so they burn more easily.  Sunburn as a child dramatically increases the risk of skin cancer as an adult.

There are 3 products for babies who are lying flat in the buggy:

SnoozeShade Original is designed for babies up to six months of age, and will protect your baby from 99% of all UVA and UVB (UPF50+).  It is black with a choice of three colour trims - safety green, steel grey and pale pink

SnoozeShade Original Deluxe is silver grey in colour and blocks 97.5% of the sun's UV rays (UPF40+). It attaches to the pram with the world's only baby-safe-certified poppers rather than velcro and has a neutral black trim.

If you have a double-width pram with one wide hood then take a look at SnoozeShade Twin which is our version of SnoozeShade Original for twin pushchairs.

For 6m+ (or once baby is sitting upright)

There are 3 products for babies who are sitting up in the buggy and want to look out when awake:

These models are all designed for use with babies who are sitting upright in the pram and want to see out.  If your baby has moved out of the bassinet or carrycot mode these one's are for you!

SnoozeShade Plus is designed for older babies, aged six months plus or once your baby has started to sit up and wants to have a nosey! The reason for this is that it has a two panel system depending on baby’s needs.

In ‘look out’ mode, (achieved by un-fastening the outer sleep panel to reveal a window for baby to see out) your baby is protected from up to 80% of UV rays. This means that when you’re sight seeing, your little one doesn’t have to miss out. The SnoozeShade Plus will provide excellent protection from the sun around the sides and on top so again you don’t need to worry about parasols.

When it’s sleep time, simply close up the sleep panel to create a darkened space for baby to sleep, away from stimulation and with protection from 99% of UV rays. Again, there’s no need to remove the SnoozeShade once indoors, and there is a sneak-a-peek zip which means you can check in on baby regularly. Air will circulate freely inside the SnoozeShade, and like all of our products this one has exceeded all safety testing standards too.

The other product we have for this age is SnoozeShade Plus Deluxe, it blocks 97.5% of UV rays (UPF40+) when in sleep mode, and stops 80% when in ‘look out’ mode. SnoozeShade Plus Deluxe has a larger viewing panel than the Plus that opens fully (the inner window in the Plus does not open).   This gives you  full access to your child, so when you’re out and baby needs to stretch her legs, you don’t need to remove SnoozeShade to do this. It can stay in place for as long as you need it.

If you have a pram with a double-width hood then we recommend a SnoozeShade Twin Deluxe.

Worried about sharing a room with your baby?

A holiday is always more restful when everyone gets a good night's sleep.  Going away with your baby or toddler can be stressful as not all holiday accommodation has the blackout curtains your little one might be used to at home (or the ability to put temporary ones up).

You may need to share a room with your baby and worry that turning lights on or moving around in the bedroom will disturb your little one's sleep which means either a) you have to go to bed when baby does or b) you have a sleepless night when baby wakes too early.

SnoozeShade for Travel Cots is here to save the day!  It's a safe, simple and lightweight solution to darken baby's travel cot and help baby sleep away from home.  If your travel cot is a larger size (that takes a 120cm x 60cm mattress) then you'll need SnoozeShade for Cots

Points to note

Your pram or stroller must have a hood or sun canopy to fit your SnoozeShade on. Most strollers, even cheaper lightweight models that are perfect for holidays, will have a hood, but do check this before you travel.

We have yet to find a stroller that SnoozeShade will not fit!  If you’re not sure, please contact us here and we will be happy to help.

It's a really good idea to check out how it fits on your pram before you go so check out the short videos on our YouTube channel or go to the relevant product page on this website and we have links to instructions here.

Please please please don’t forget to use sun cream on your little ones aged over six months. The SnoozeShade does provide sun protection but it is still recommended that sunblock be used alongside our products.

Check our FAQ page for more info, and get in touch if we still haven’t answered your questions.
