SnoozeShade Plus Deluxe works two ways, depending on whether your child is awake or napping.

• Shade mode: the zip-up see-out panel, a single layer of black mesh, lets your child see out while blocking over 80% of UV, plus wind, light rain, chill and insects. Ideal for everyday strolls, school runs and days out.
• Snooze mode: add the silver-grey outer snooze panel and secure it with the quiet baby-safe poppers to create a darker, distraction-free space that blocks up to 94% of light and 97% of UV, helping your little one nap wherever you are.

A discreet sleeping-baby emblem quietly asks passers-by not to disturb your little one, and the sneak-a-peek zip lets you check on them without letting light in. Both panels roll up and tuck neatly into the integrated front pocket when you are not using them.

SnoozeShade Plus Deluxe is for any child who is in the stroller seat, whatever their age. What matters is the seat, not how old they are. If your little one is in the stroller seat, this is the shade for them. If they are in a pram or carrycot, that is what the Original is for.

It fits any single-width pram, pushchair or jogging stroller with a hood, including popular frames like the Babyzen YoYo, Bugaboo, iCandy and UppaBaby. It also works on tandems (one per seat) and some side-by-side double buggies, depending on the frame.

Many families use it for years. Cara, the inventor of SnoozeShade, used hers on and off until her daughter was five, for naps on holiday, long days out and evenings in busy restaurants.

The World Health Organization advises seeking shade once the UV index reaches 3 or above. In the UK that often means most of the day from April to September, and UV passes through cloud and reflects off concrete, water, sand and even snow, so a child can be exposed even when it feels cool.

Parasols and canopies rarely cover a child fully and do nothing about reflected UV. We've recently updated the way we measure sun protection, on the advice of experts in the field.

Like most baby sun products, we've always quoted the UPF rating, and it's a genuine, independently tested result for our fabric. But times have changed and a new standard has developed.

UPF is a clothing standard, written for fabric worn against the skin. There is now a standard written specifically for shade fabrics: the Australian standard AS 4174, which gives a UVE rating, short for Ultraviolet Effectiveness. That standard is what we have chosen to embrace moving forward, and every SnoozeShade is tested to it by ARPANSA, the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency, at their government laboratory.

Toddlers are alert, easily overstimulated and far too interested in the world to want to switch off, which makes naps on the go hard. Pop on the snooze panel and it creates a calm, shady cocoon that blurs distractions and helps them wind down, like a sensory reset from movement, light and noise.

You may have seen advice warning against covering a pram, and that advice is worth taking seriously. It is about covers that trap heat and restrict airflow.
